Its spikes extend beyond its surface membranes and make it look like the sun’s corona.
What are the reported strains of this Coronavirus?
Coronavirus was first discovered in the 1960s in a chicken. It was found for the second time in the nasal cavities of human patients. They were subsequently named Human Coronavirus 229E and Human Coronavirus OC43. Other strains of this family may include SARS-CoV in 2003, HCoV NL63 in 2004, HKU1 in 2005, MERS-CoV in 2012. Most of these have been a part of serious respiratory tract infections. On 31st December 2019, a new strain of Coronavirus, 2019-nCoV, was reported in Wuhan, China.
